Can anyone tell me how to identify Japanese Knotweed in the UK? Does it have any look-a-likelies this side of the pond? I know it's edible but all the sites I've looked at are US ones. All help gratefully received.

can you eat Japanese knotweed?
I think it generally grows buy rivers and water, but I might be wrong. There is lots of it in sheffield down by the river Don.
'buy rivers'? That was an odd typo! Just wanted to draw attention to the fact that it was a mistake, and not that I am a bit thick and didn't pay attention in school.
Japanese knotweed grows EVERYWHERE, with huge enthusiasm. It is one of the most pervasive weeds in the country and is on that horticultural hitlist of non-native species that we need to eradicate before it takes over the nation.
Didn't realise you can eat it, mind. Perhaps that would be the answer...?
If I remember, I'll take a pic next time I see some.

Considering we are now knitting with bamboo and the like, surely Japanese Knotweed could be used for this purpose?
